Prepcom2 will be held in Geneva from 17-28 February 2003, the main objective of which is to begin consideration of a draft of the Declaration of Principles and Action Plan. These drafts are to be submitted eventually for the approval of different Heads of State attending the Summit in December 2003.
Groups with specific proposals and actions should submit their proposals to the WSIS Executive Secretariat. By doing so, these could be reflected in the first draft of the Declaration or of the Action Plan. Deadline for submission is on December 25, 2002. Convenors of the second preparatory meeting are hoping that member states sending delegations to the meeting would create a preparatory team composed of representatives from the private sector and civil society. Separate letters of invitation have already been sent to a number of these groups worldwide.
The Prepcom2 is the latest major development concerning the WSIS. The First Preparatory Meeting of the Summit was held last July and an Informal Meeting on content and themes of the Summit was held in Geneva in September. The outcome of these meetings are posted on the official WSIS website.
