Nairobi, Kenya—From January 20 to 25, 2007, activists, social movements, networks, coalitions, and other progressive forces from the Asia-Pacific, Latin America, the Caribbean, North America, Europe, and Africa will converge at the Moi International Sports Center Kasarani, Nairobi for the 7th World Social Forum (WSF).

Just like in previous years, this year’s WSF, with the theme “People’s Struggles, People’s Alternatives” will provide democratic spaces for various social movements to discuss and debate on strategies of resistance and sustainable alternatives to imperialism and its associated neo-liberal policies that have, over the years, imposed colonialism and neo-colonialism around the world.

Firmly committed to its belief that “Another World Is Possible,” the WSF also serves as a venue for civil society organisations, peoples, and movements to share experiences and strengthen alliances in working towards social justice, international solidarity, gender equality, peace, and defence of the environment.

Women’s groups, for example, have been busy organising their presence at the WSF 2007 by linking with other initiatives such as the Feminist Dialogues, to be held also in Nairobi prior to the WSF, to ensure effective participation by women.

In addition to women’s issues, topics on HIV/AIDS, privatisation of common goods, peace and conflict, migration, youth, debt, free trade agreements, labour, and housing are among the topics for discussion in the forum.
