The Open Source Resource Center (OSRC) in Pakistan has released its training toolkit on free and open source software (FOSS), which can be availed of for free. OSRC is also offering free FOSS training workshops for interested organisations.

Pakistan's Open Source Resource Center (OSRC) is now offering free and open source software (FOSS) training toolkits as well as free training on FOSS for interested individuals and organisations.

Free FOSS toolkit

To help individuals and organisations in deploying or migrating from proprietary to open source software, OSRC has come up with a training toolkit containing step-by-step manuals on open source applications for databases, application servers, desktop applications, office productivity suites, open source desktop applications for both Linux and Microsoft Windows platform, and others.

The toolkit also contains a set of CDs that include two Linux distributions, Ubuntu Linux Desktop and the Fedora Server Distributions, among other applications.

The manuals are available in Open Document (.odt), Portable Document (.pdf) and MS Word (.doc) formats. Anyone interested can freely download, distribute, use, and modify this training toolkit and its related CDs.

Free FOSS Trainings

Using the open source toolkit, OSCR is also offering free trainings to assist organisations in migrating to or in adopting FOSS solutions to improve technical skills of their personnel. OSCR will facilitate FOSS awareness-raising seminars and training workshops for universities, colleges, training institutes, NGOs, and government organisations in 29 different cities across Pakistan, by providing both the training material and the trainers.

Organisations interested to host the training workshops can apply by submitting a proposal by April 5, 2007 to this address:
