The Information Society Watch, an online portal on information society issues, was recently launched in Bangalore, India. The website aims to provide policymakers, civil society organisations, media, researchers, and others with information society issues in the context of development needs of the South.

Information Society Watch (ISW), a resource portal providing a Southern perspective on information society (IS) issues is now online. Visit <www.is-watch.net>.

ISW aims to provide a Southern discourse on the information society phenomenon, which so far has mostly been interpreted by Northern actors. It offers resources and analytical tools to scholars, activists, media, civil society organisations and policymakers for unpacking the structural and political dimensions of the information society. It is intended for developing learning and knowledge-sharing platforms to help build perspectives for analysis, advocacy, and action.

ISW has three key focus areas:
- Information Society Policies (Policies shaping change in the information society at global, national and local levels)
- ICT for Development (Challenges and opportunities for development in the information society)
- Society and Culture (Changing social and cultural landscapes in the information society)

ISW was launched by IT for Change, a non-profit organisation based in Bangalore, India. Visit the IT for Change website: <www.itforchange.net>.
