16th AMIC Annual Conference / 1st WJEC Conference

The Asian Media Information and Communication Centre (AMIC) invites participants for the 16th AMIC annual conference from June 25-28, 2007 in Singapore. This conference will run in conjunction with the first World Journalism Education Congress (WJEC).

The theme of AMIC’s 16th annual conference is “Media Education and Development: The Quest for New Paradigms.” This will focus on the search for new paradigms of media education and development in a rapidly changing technological, policy, and market environment.

The conference is open to academics, media industry professionals, government agencies, policy makers, regulators, United Nations (UN) agencies, donors, research groups, civil society organisations, independent consultants, and students.

The Congress, on the other hand, will be the first international conference specifically designed for journalism educators and journalism education associations. It will provide a forum for all involved in journalism education to discuss common issues and interests and a foundation for supporting the continuing development of journalism and journalism education worldwide.

Some of the topics of the plenary sessions include Journalism Education, Industry/Academy Relationships, Journalistic Freedom and Responsibility, Who is a Journalist?, Comparative Models of Journalism Education, and Asian Journalism Education—Challenges and Opportunities.

Interested participants may register online at <www.amic.org.sg/reg.php?id=13>.  Deadline for registration is May 15, 2007.

AMIC is committed to spearhead the development of media and communication expertise in the Asia-Pacific to foster socio-economic progress in the region.

RadioAsia Conference 2007

The third annual RadioAsia conference will be held on June 19-22, 2007 in Singapore. RadioAsia 2007 is jointly organised by the Asian Media Information and Communication Centre (AMIC), the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU), and Singapore Exhibition Services (SES)

RadioAsia will bring together leading radio media practitioners, communication specialists, policy makers, and academics from across the Asia-Pacific and beyond. Some 40 eminent speakers who specialise in various aspects of radio and communications will attend to share their perspectives.

This year’s conference will challenge the perception that technology alone, and not evolving audience profiles, is responsible for driving change in communications.
