Fale, Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat, Suva

The Chair of the Pacific Islands Forum and Prime Minister of the Cook Islands, Hon. Henry Puna M.P. will launch the Pacific Regional Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security at an interactive event which will bring together Forum member states, civil society organisations, UN agencies, and CROP agencies at the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat Fale on 18th October, 2012 from 8:00am to 10:30am ahead of the annual UN Security Council Open Debate on UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security in New York on October 31.

WE Act 1325 wishes to be counted among the many civil society organizations and other stakeholders who celebrate the breakthrough in the peace negotiations between the Government of the Philippines and Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF). We commend the Aquino administration for the political will it demonstrated, and thank the members of the negotiating panels for having forged the framework agreement which is up for signing a week from now.

QAYN (Queer African Youth Networking Center) has been working for the past two years on a project for an advocacy and leadership training in West Africa. Isis International Manila joined this exciting initiative, bringing its unique expertise in communication and its very special Southern feminist experiences. The training is taking place from the 24th to the 28th September 2012 in Burkina Faso with ten participants from francophone countries.

Isis International is saddened to hear of the loss of a pioneering feminist in the Pacific and international women's movements.

The Isis International Feminist Activist Schools, launched in 2010, provide training for women from countries across the global south in using communications for their advocacy work. The Schools last from a few days to a few weeks and are developed in partnership with the groups and organisations requesting the training. The Activist Schools work with the participants to build understanding of the issues, provide technical training on the use of media and communication, and enhance skills to craft messages for advocacy work.
